Fruit or Vegetable?Cucumbers

Though commonly thought to be a vegetable, cucumber is actually a fruit.cucumbers are low in calories and contain a good amount of water and soluble fiber, making them ideal for promoting hydration and aiding in weight loss. Cucumbers contain protein, fiber, vitamins C and K, potassium, magnesium, manganese, of which are partially contained in the skin so you shouldn’t peal them. In addition, cucumbers, are especially rich in beneficial antioxidants that help to reduce the risk of conditions caused by free radicals that can lead to several types of chronic illnesses like oxidative stress which has been associated with cancer and heart, lung and autoimmune disease. Cucumbers are also very hydrating, water is important to the body for temperature regulation and waste management. Cucumbers have also been helpful in weight loss, lowering blood sugar, and with constipation.  This time of the year, farm markets will have a plethora of vegetables like cucumbers available, slice them and dip them with a little humus for a refreshing side to your meal.
