Green Power!
With all the talk these days about saving the environment, we need to look in to the best ways for saving our city, our earthly temple, our bodies. To build a “Green city” we need to invest in the gold mine of nutrients and phytochemicals called green leafy vegetables. Green vegetables are inexpensive and a valuable source of nutrients, and their productions does not harm the environment as does animal production.
Green leafy vegetables are low in calories and ideal for weight management. Greens are high in dietary fiber, folic acid, vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium as well as phytochemicals. These are the nutrients that reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Greens such as cabbage, broccoli, kale and brussel sprouts release anti-inflammatory compounds which help to curtail inflammation from chronic diseases and aid the liver to detoxify toxins. Consuming a green salad daily with your meal has been beneficial for lower risk of diabetes. In addition, the vitamin K in the greens are essential for bone health. Believe it or not, greens are just as beneficial for eye health as eating carrots!
