Turmeric-Spice of life

How healthy are roots? Turmeric is a flowering plant, of the ginger family. This plant is perennial, herbaceous plant found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. This is the reason that many of the cultural dishes are made with Turmeric. The roots or rhizomes are used fresh or boiled in water and dried, then are ground into a powdered form which is orange-yellow in color. Turmeric is used as coloring as well as flavoring and sometimes for dyeing. In natural therapeutics, Turmeric can be used for borderline diabetes. It doesn’t cure it, but it helps lower blood sugar, encouraging the body to produce more insulin. Turmeric can be made into a golden milk and then drank for treatment for flu and coughs. In addition, it can be drank or made into pill form for treatment of bronchitis. Again, the curcumin  in Turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory which then helps with pain relief. Plus, Turmeric provides heart protection, where it attacks free radical compounds that cause infection. Also, Turmeric reduces risk of cholesterol that blocks the arteries, causing heart attacks. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory functions show it is beneficial to help with leaky gut, that leads to many other health problems. Lastly, Turmeric has been shown to reduce cancers of the head, neck, mouth or esophagus, as well as reducing the formation of colorectal, breast, prostate, or pancreatic cancers.
