Chronic Inflammation - do you have brain fog?

Mild inflammation may enhance mental fatigue or cognitive stress. The Standard American Diet (SAD) which is characterized by higher intakes of red and processed meats, sweets, desserts, fried foods, and refined grains, have been shown to increases inflammatory markers in the blood. This encourages the growth of unfriendly gut bacteria that generates pro-inflammatory compounds that not only impact the gut, but the brain, the liver, and the immune system. Inflammation is your body’s first line of defense against infection and injury. Normally this process shuts down after healing is complete. But trouble starts when the inflammation process gets stuck “on”. Inflammation then causes your body to begin attacking healthy cells, blood vessels, and tissues instead of protecting them. If chronic inflammation establishes itself in the brain, it leads to the brain beginning to shut down  which is seen as mental fatigue, brain fog, and memory loss   To protect our brain we need to switch to an anti-inflammatory diet. Red grapes, berries, and cherries improve mental performance by increasing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity within the brain. Green vegetables contain chlorophyll and magnesium which also combat inflammation. Maintaining proper weight, and levels of vitamin D reduces inflammation within the body. And lastly, we also need proper amounts of sleep and exercise each day.
