Herb: Rosemary

Member of the mint family, good preservative due to its antioxidant properties. Also has mild antimicrobial activity, cancer-protection and anti-inflammatory effects. As an antioxidant it is more powerful than vitamin C. Antioxidants act in a synergistic function to protect cells from free radical damage. Rosemary is also useful for hypertension, it acts as an ACE inhibitor. ACE inhibitors help to dilate blood vessels which reduce blood pressure. In addition, Rosemary has anti-thrombotic action, which reduces clot formation by approximately 80% of all heart attacks and majority of strokes. Rosemary’s constituents reduce inflammation in the lungs. For example, it inhibits allergic inflammation in the bronchial tubes from dust mites. It also protect DNA damage from chronic inflammation. Due to Rosemary’s ability to decrease inflammation, it also helps with joint pain. A mixture of rosemary oil, with olive oil applied to achy muscle and joints will bring relief by increasing blood flow in the area. Lastly, Rosemary when inhaled, boosts the brain and reduces anxiety.
